Germanic Wines/Asparagus Box
More Spring vibes in a box! Mostly towering Schlegel bottles, so you know things are about to get Teutonic in here. All of them delicious with various preparations of asparagus and other spring vegetables:
Geyerhof Gruner Veltliner ‘Rosensteig’ 2018: Tight and mineral organic Veltliner full of delicately layered notes of citrus, ripe apple, green herbs, yeast and earth. Delicious with green (asparagus) salads, seefood or simply by itself.
Frauwallner Gelber Mukateller 2018: Styrian vulcanic soil Muscat: aromatic and herbaceous on the nose, mineral and spicy on the palate. Glorious with white asparagus!
Ansgar Clüsserath ‘Vom Schiefer’ Riesling 2017: Pure and lightweight Mosel Riesling by the elegant Eva Clüsserath, juicy and particularly mineral.
P.J. Kuhn ‘Jacobus’ Riesling 2018: Absolutely electric Riesling from the stellar biodynamic domain Kuhn in the Rheingau, one of our faves right now. Fierce acidity shooting through ripe and earthy grape juice, this is a great fit with tart and spicy dishes like ceviche and Thai salads.
Weingut Wittmann Scheurebe 2018: Another biodynamic Riesling wizard, but Philipp Wittmann’s Scheurebe is an often overlooked gem in his range. Intensely aromatic with flowers, grapefruit and forest berries, structured and mineral on the palate with a lingering finish.
Antoine Kreydenweiss ‘Pinot Boir’ Alsace Blanc 2018: Aesthetically the most explicitly biodynamic wine in this box, by our friends at Domaine Kreydenweiss in Andlau. Quirky blend of Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner, Riesling, Pinot Gris and a touch of macerated Gewurztraminer. Macerated yes, giving a touch of dried fruit and some tannic structure to the package. Delicious with more elaborate and perhaps meaty asparagus dishes.
