- Fabien Brutout ‘Le Facteur Sur le Ve’lo’ 2019. Fresh and tight Vouvray, bone-dry but packed with floral and honeyed nuances and laced with chalky minerality. Produced by young Fabien Brutout, protégé of the renowned Mathieu Cosme who’s now bottling his own wines under the label of ‘Le Facteur’. Made from biodynamically farmed, 90 year-old Chenin Blanc on clay-silex over limestone soils, courtesy of Cosme’s Domaine de Beaumont.
- Fumey-Chatelain Arbois Chardonnay 2018. The young and ambitious Marin Fumey recently took over the reigns of his family company and produces a great range of Jura wines that are slowly moving into the international limelight. His delicious Arbois Chardonnay from limestone soils is an insanely good value that walks the tightrope between classic Jura and the region’s ‘natural’ clique. Ripe apples and green pastures on the nose, round and creamy mid-palate followed by a fresh breeze and mineral crunch on the finish.
- Cap de Nit ‘Blanc T3’ 2019. Elegant but uplifting orange wine by Josie and Joshua Kniesel, German expats in sunny Marina Alta (Alicante). Moscatel made with 3 weeks of skin-contact and aged for almost a year in amphora. The gentle maceration brings out a deeply tropical side in the grape, while also adding complex notes of musk and burnt orange. Refreshing tannins and a nice bit of nerve on the palate, gorgeous aperitif-style orange wine.
- Cap de Nit ‘Negre’ 2019. Deep-flavoured but completely free-floating rendering of Giró, aged for 12 months in amphora. Fun mix of peppery, herbaceous and lightly animalic aromas with brighter notes of ripe cherry and raspberry, serve with a chill but not too much.
- Fumey-Chatelain Arbois Ploussard 2018. Fun and vibrant Poulsard, low-extraction but high-concentration. Floral and spicy on the nose, palate packed with ripe but light-weight berry fruit. Lightly earthy and mineral laced, refreshing finish.
- Valérie Courreges ‘Zinzolin’ 2019. FIrm but extremely digestible Malbec-based wine from Cahors. Absolutely packed with rich black fruit, forest berries, violets and woodsmoke, all of which is carried gracefully by its surprisingly nimble acidity. Impeccable balance of ripeness and precision here, and as a result this wine works almost as well standing up at a counter as it does at the dinner table.
