Jules Desjourneys Morgon 2014


Vinification: Biodynamically farmed old-vine Gamay on granite and schist soils in lieu-dits Corcelette and Les Micauds. Hand-harvest, vigorous sorting in vineyard and on table. Whole-bunch fermentation without sulphites and other inputs in concrete tanks, aging in part barrel and part concrete and fiberglass tanks (Duperray has gradually fazed out oak use in his red wines and as of 2015 uses none at all). Minimal S02 added after one year of elevage, bottled unfined and unfiltered after two years of aging.

Character: Amazingly layered and structured Morgon, dense but full of vibrancy. Still quite closed but already showing phenomenal aromatic range, from delicate flowers and sweet red fruit to smoke, earth and blood. Needs a least a couple more years to unfurl and has over a decade more aging potential.
