Jules Desjourneys Pouilly-Loché 2016

Vinification: Highly original white Burgundy vinified by Fabien Duperray using organically farmed grapes from Domaine Thibert. The Pouilly-Loché comes from 30 year-old vines on schist-dominated soils, east-facing at about 250 meters altitude. The grapes are hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed and fermented and aged in steel tanks. Sulphur is used minimally and the wine is only delicately filtered before bottling.

Character: Very reductive still, needs some time in a decanter. Even then this is insanely tight and focused, densely packed with mineral textures. Creaminess and opulence are present but subdued, eager to manifest with some bottle age. Will keep for 10 years and needs at least 2 to show its true colours.
