Lise et Bertrand Jousset ‘Clos aux Renards’ Montlouis-sur-Loire 2016
Vinification: Lise and Bertrand’s single-vineyard masterpiece! From a small, gently sun-exposed ‘clos’ of 80-100 year-old Chenin Blanc vines on chalky clay (Aubuis) over limestone soils. Biodynamically farmed at very low yields (20 hl/ha). Hand-harvest, direct-press of whole bunches, natural fermentation without additives in old barriques. Aged for 12 months in old oak barrels and another 12 months in tank. Bottled with light filtration, no fining and a toch of added sulphites (20-30 mg/L).
Character: Very rich and gastronomic Chenin, packed with creamy stone fruit, baked apple, spice, herbs, chalky and smokey notes. Veers towards a touch of sweetness mid-palate before it moves into an endlessly chalky and spicy finish. Will develop beautifully for at least ten years after the vintage. The 2015 is a big and spicy wine, we also have the slightly more subtle 2016 vintage in stock.
