Alexis Hudon ‘Matousé’ 2019 MAGNUM

36.04

Vinification: 40 year-old vine Sauvignon Blanc, organic vineyards on sand and silex soils. Spontaneous fermentation without inputs in fiberglass tanks, aging on the lees for a few months and bottled delicately filtered with minimal added sulphites.

Character: Rich but refreshing Sauvignon, atypical and highly addictive. This 2019 vintage is very ripe but beautifully structured, the firm acidity carrying its big body with grace. While this is still a great example of the broad aromatic and textural range natural vinification can produce from Sauvignon Blanc (no grassy cat pee notes here), the new vintage shows much more clean and focused than the 2018. And although we really enjoyed the yeasty funk of those bottles, we can’t help but marvel at the concentration and purity of fruit on display here.
