Vinification
70 year-old vines sandy hillsides over granite subsoils. Organic farming with some biodynamic insights. Hand-harvest, whole-cluster semi-carbonic maceration in cement tanks without addition of yeast or sulphites. Long vatting followed by 12-18 months aging in old barrels. Bottled unfined, unfiltered and unsulphured.
Domaine Marcel Joubert
Domaine Joubert is a family estate, going back as far as four generations, and stretching across 10 hectares of Beaujolais land. When Marcel Joubert took over the estate in 1972, he prioritized the conservation and the preservation of the estates’s old vines, which age anywhere between 30 and 100 years, all whilst maintaining an organic viticultural practice, despite never having the certification.
Joubert follows a distinct philosophy in the cellar which is to make wines that express, in its pure form, the terroir of the estate. Keeping this in mind, he does not filter his wines, or add sulfur and uses only the wild yeasts to carry out the fermentations.
