Jules Desjourneys Moulin a Vent ‘Les Michelons’ 2011

‘Les Michelons’ derives from a 1.9 hectares plot on granitic sand. The vines are 50 to 90 years old. It was cropped 25.7 hectoliters per hectare. It has a super-concentrated bouquet of macerated dark cherries and maraschino, hints of marmalade, crème de cassis, and a sprinkle of cloves. The palate is medium-bodied with very ripe, demonstrative tannins.

Vinification

Biodynamically farmed old-vine Gamay on steep south-east facing lieu-dit ‘Les Michelons’. Hand-harvest, vigorous sorting in the vineyard and on the table. Whole-bunch fermentation without sulfites and other inputs in concrete tanks, aging in used oak barrels (Duperray has since gradually fazed out oak use in his red wines and as of 2015 uses none at all). Minimal S02 added after one year of elevage, bottled unfined, and unfiltered after two years of aging.

Sales limited to 1 bottle per order.
