Dr. Loosen/ Telmo Rodrigues Graacher Himmelreich 2015/ Cuvaison
This wine is matured on foudres of 2000 liter. The oak barrels originate from the cellars of Telmo Rodrigues. His Remelluri Blanco was priorly aged on these casks.
The Riesling stays in barrel on full lees for two years and then another two years on the bottle in the winery. Ten percent of the skins were kept in cask during the fermentation process, providing a slight tannic structure.
The four years’ aging and the maceration on the skins, give the wine a golden, amber hue. The nose is developed, with sherry tones, like toasted almonds and raisins. In the palate though, citrus flavors and linear acidity gives the wine zest and tang. Eccentric round full bitters and herbal notes in the finish, unusual to Mosel wines, but very characteristic for this bottle.
