About Nicolas-Jay
This winery found its history in 1987 when two friends met and got connected through their love for wine. One is a record label founder Jay Boberg and the other is Burgundy bigshot Jean-Nicolas Méo.
Jay Boberg already produced some wine in Napa, but he was drawn to the more elegant style of Pinot. It was his idea to combine forces with Jean-Nicolas and start producing Pinot Noir based wines in Oregon, Willamette Valley.
Initially, they wanted to be a négoce and buy grapes from farmers. But because they couldn’t succeed in finding grapes they thought were up to par, they decided to produce their own grapes. The first plot bought was a property at Bishop Creek, which is now considered the Estate Vineyard. The debut vintage is 2014. Every year the wines are getting better and being polished. But from the start, there are no concessions. Jay as well as Jean-Nicolas have always been used to trust on there gut feeling and only chose what they believed is the best.
