Lemberger is the Württemberg name for the grape variety that we know under the name blaufrankisch or kekfrankos. Honestly, it is seen a bit as a grape with not too much potential. And that’s a shame, because you can make much more from this grape variety than just simple table wines. Indeed; in this part of Germany there are even winemakers who make a Grosses Gewächs from lemberger. Drautz-Able is one of them.
However, this wine is a somewhat simpler version, but do not underestimate it! Made from grapes that come from sticks that are up to 130 years old, that results in a rather powerful style wine with a beautiful dark colour. Lots of flavour, notes of blackcurrants and sour cherries and a pleasant peppery tone. Mild tannins, lots of juice. And only 12.5% alcohol.
