On the nose aromas of spices and ripe yellow berries. Quite discreet in its young years, this wine is straight and tight in the mouth, its power offers a very pleasant tannic structure. The richness of this particular terroir brings a beautiful minerality to this wine. A complex wine, patience and time are required to appreciate it at its true value.

This Schist Steige soil (black schist) is unique in Alsace. Located directly at the top of Andlau on a vertiginous slope, it produced one of the most famous wines. The Riesling is characterized by power, finesse and minerality. This great wine takes its full potential after a few years ageing.
Slow pressing of whole bunches, alcoholic and malolactic fermentation with indigenous yeasts, ageing on lees in oak foudres for about 25 months before bottling.

Domaine Marc Kreydenweiss

Antoine Kreydenweiss is the producer of many a staff favorite here at Chabrol-HQ, ever since he took over the Alsatian domain of his father Marc, a famous pioneer in biodynamic viticulture. From the sleepy village of Andlau Antoine operates this esteemed Domaine with terroir-diverse holdings in the surrounding hills, among which the three Grand Cru’s Kastelberg, Wiebelsberg, and Moenchberg. No fan of rich-but-electric, lip-smackingly salty white wines that wear terroir rather than variety on their sleave should miss these often very age-worthy wines.

The winery is located in Andlau, in Alsace, between Strasbourg and Colmar, in the area called Piemont des Vosges. Nestled at the bottom of the mountains, the vineyard has the benefice of a continental climate and the soils are based on a mosaic of terroirs which are completely different from each other in term of geology : pink sandstone (g.c. Wibelsberg), black slate (g.c. Kastelberg and blue slate (Clos du Val d’Eléon and Clos Rebberg) and marls and limestone (g.c. Moenchberg).

Marc Kreydenweiss transmitted his passion of the wine, terroirs and biodynamical to his children. Antoine Kreydenweiss took over the management of the vineyard in 2007 who is accompanied by his wife Charlotte, their daughters Zoe, Lilou and Leonie, the whole team and his horse.  Together they show the same passion : create wines with personality and reveal soul of each terroir.

The winery covers 13.5 hectares of vineyard, including 3 Grand Crus of Andlau: Wiebelsberg, Moenchberg and Kastelberg. A new grand cru is now part of the terroir diversity of the domaine: the Kirchberg in Barr.

The winemaking is based on natural methods, with the respect of the equilibrium of each wine. Every year, the production is about 120.000 bottles.

The notoriety of the winery is worldwide, from Japan, USA, Norway, throughout Europe and of course in France.

Each year the label is illustrated by a different artist, chosen by the winemaker.
By combining the creativity of the artist and the knowledge of the winemaker, each bottle becomes unique.

The biodynamical is applied since 1989 and is the main part of the activities.
