Vinification
The vineyards are on clay-limestone soils with sulphurous minerals. The grapes are harvested by hand in September and are placed in tanks for 4 months where they rest on some remnants of the skins. The wine is aged for at least 2 months in the bottle before it is released. The light skin maceration lines the wine with structure and an provides an entertaining edgy bite.
About Noelia Ricci
Noelia Ricci is a wine project of the extensive Emigliano-Romagna domain Pandolfa. Pandolfa is an Emilian estate in Predappio along the river Rabbi. The history of the estate dates back to the Middle Ages – General Pandolfo Malatesta the lord of Fano is said to have temporarily settled on the estate in the 15th century. In 1941 Giuseppe Ricci revived the estate and vineyards around the estate were replanted with the local Sangiovese and Trebbiano.
After Giuseppe’s death, his daughter Noelia succeeded him in 1980. But it was his granddaughter Paolo Piscopo who gave the estate its current glory. Together with her son Marco (4th generation), she started the Noelia Ricci project in the late 90s. Within the large Pandolfo domain, you can call the production of Noelia Ricci small and focused. It is currently only 9 hectares, chosen for the quality of the soil and the good terroir.
The vineyards of Noelia Ricci are located at about 200 to 360 meters above sea level and have a favourable southeastern exposure. Thanks to a fresh sea breeze brought in by the Adriatic Sea, the vineyards are cooled down during evenings and at night. This cooling ensures an extended ripening period in which the grapes retain their freshness and good acidity.
The wines of Noelia Ricci are made for their elegance and refinement, the style is like a refine Burgundy Pinot. The working method and philosophy of the domain are in line with organic viticulture. To maintain focus and clarity only 3 wines are produced under the label.
