Newsletter August: Denizot from Sancerre and Groseille is Back

Dear Wine Enthusiast

August is showing a bit dreary. But rainy weather is pre-eminently wine weather. And there are always bright moments, even on rainy days.

Alexis Hudon Groseille 2017Bright like this highlight: Alexis Hudon’s Groseille is back in store. Just in time to inform you while writing this newsletter. The bottles have wings, we see them flying out the door. No time to waste!

Alexis Hudon Groseille 2017For those who embrace a surprise or six…our brainiacs have once again exceeded themselves. Together we compiled a boundaries-breaking – Out of the Box’-box. Filled with hidden gems. These wines are selected with some guts, but also with an eye on good taste and sophistication.

As diligent as always – our tireless procurement team has landed a set of beautiful domains. A small boutique domain from Sancerre (Domaine Denizot) and a series of off-dry white wines from the Mosel (Martin Conrad).

Salut, Team Chabrol

Out-of-the-Box

This mixed case covers a selection of wines from our range that we love but sometimes require a little more explanation. Every bottle in this box is unique, niche and very exciting. Some from big established names and some from young upcoming talent. A fantastic selection from our Chabrol-Team with exceptional wines – unicorns. The box contains 4 powerful white wines and 2 smooth red wines.

Sancerre – Domaine Denizot

Our latest addition is a beautiful boutique domain from Sancerre. Stylish Sauvignon Blancs and juicy Pinot Noirs. This is the collection of Thibault and Jennifer Denizot described in a nutshell. Pre-eminent wines that will do well in this cool, rainy weather. Think of cheese platters, creamy sauces with wild mushrooms or grilled farm chicken from the oven sprinkled with the first autumn truffle. On the side… a delicious hearty glass of Sancerre from Domaine Denizot.

The vineyards of Denizot are in the municipalities of Verdigny, Chavignol and d’Amigny. Top terroir on the famous Kimmeridge Caillottes, Terres Blanches plateau. The domain’s white wines are powerful yet elegant. A small area of clay-limestone is preserved for fruity, juicy Pinot Noirs. The winery has been owned by the Denizot family for six generations, but the young Thibault and Jennifer are two extremely passionate winegrowers who are aiming for the top level. As they claim, the work is hard and goes on for 24 hours, 7 days a week. But the fruit of their labour is manifesting. Their talent is noticed and the wines of Denizot will be amongst great names soon.

Mosel Martin Conrad Feinherb en Kabinett

The demand for wines that are semi-dry is growing. Wines that have residual sweetness but are refined and refreshing.

The Mosel Riesling lends itself ideally to a style not too dry wines that are fresh. Acids in the Riesling are actually wrapped up by a little residual sweetness – a game of balance and harmony. Although we already have a beautiful series of rare Kabinett and Auslese by Ansgar Clüsserath in stock, we also opted for a new line by Martin Conrad. His wines are stylish, express the mineral terroir of Mosel and, last but not least, they are favourably priced.

The Conradus line is entry-level, but the level is high. Well-balanced, typical Mosel.

The wines bottled under the Martin Conrad label come from his top vineyards Brauneberg Juffer. Wider style with depth and sophistication.

Wijnen Martin Conrad
Conradus Riesling Feinherb 2018 17,46
Conradus Kabinett 2019 17,46
Martin Conrad Riesling Brauneberg Juffer Feinherb 22,96
